GURU Energy Case Study: Turning Brand Strategy Into Execution
Brand DNA, Positioning & Execution Embedding
A Three-Phase Partnership with ACV Consulting | November 2024–May 2025
Published: September 30th, 2026.
This GURU Energy case study explores how ACV Consulting developed a brand strategy framework to unify the natural energy drink's Brand DNA, align its team, and turn strategy into executable marketing priorities.
The Challenge
GURU had been Canada's original natural energy drink for more than three decades. The founding story—clean ingredients, good energy, a challenger ethos—was genuine. The problem was that almost no one inside the company could tell it the same way twice.
Brand DNA had accumulated across different documents over thirty-plus years without a unifying brand strategy framework. The North Star was undefined. Annual priorities swung between brand building and performance marketing with no structure to hold both. The internal team described a brand that was trying to be everything to everyone.
GURU had the brand story. What it needed was a way to tell it consistently—and a plan for embedding that story into everything going forward.
The Solution: Building a Brand Strategy Framework
ACV structured the engagement in three phases: define the DNA, develop the strategy, embed it into execution.
Phase One involved a document deep dive, a proprietary AI scan of consumer sentiment across social and retail channels, and internal team interviews to map the gap between current perception and future ambition.
Phase Two facilitated an in-person brand workshop that turned those insights into a brand strategy framework with a North Star, activation pillars, and the rallying cry the team needed to align around.
Phase Three turned strategy into an executable plan—a marketing mix framework with resource allocation guidance, a Partnership Playbook for influencer and ambassador relationships, a KPI framework, and a full-year marketing roadmap.

The Results
The engagement delivered:
- A refined Brand DNA with a defined North Star and activation pillars giving the full team a shared strategic language.
- An in-person Brand Strategy Workshop producing genuine cross-functional alignment.
- A marketing mix framework with resource allocation guidance across paid, social, events, and partnerships.
- A Partnership Playbook defining ambassador, influencer, and UGC tier structures.
- A KPI framework and full-year marketing roadmap through the end of 2025.
Key Insight
Brand strategy that stays in a presentation is not strategy. It is aspiration.
The distance between the two is execution—and an effective brand strategy framework requires that the team can make a budget call or a creative choice and explain, without looking anything up, how it connects to what the brand stands for.
That is what embedding actually means. Not a brand book. A team that can act from it.
