When we built ACV Consulting's AI-Powered Assessment program, the goal was always the same: give growth-stage and mid-market consumer brands the same quality of strategic insight that the world's great brands get from their internal teams and agency partners — without the overhead of either.
For years, we delivered that through a combination of deep experience, proprietary methodology, and genuinely talented people. Our team brought real-world brand-building credentials — from Apple to The North Face — to every engagement. The assessments were good. Our clients trusted them, acted on them, and came back for more.
But I've spent enough time inside great brands to know the difference between a recommendation you can act on and one you can defend. And I've been honest with myself and our clients about where the line was.
The line moved this year.
What Changed in Our AI-Powered Assessment
We've embedded AI tools into the core of every Digital Assessment we produce for strategic alignment, competitive intelligence, and media mix analysis. And the result isn't just a faster assessment — it's a structurally better one.
Here's what I mean by that.
Our previous approach relied on what I'd call algorithmic intelligence — tools that were good at surfacing patterns in data, flagging competitive benchmarks, and identifying signals in consumer sentiment. They worked. But they had a ceiling. They could tell you what was happening. They struggled to tell you why it mattered for your specific brand, and they certainly couldn't connect the dots across sections of the assessment into a coherent strategic argument.
What AI tools can do differently is reason. Not just pattern-match — reason. And that changes the quality of what we can deliver in ways that matter to the people who have to act on our work.

How Each Section of the AI-Powered Assessment Gets Better
Competitive Benchmarking
Every Digital Assessment benchmarks your brand against your top three US competitors across CRO, SEO, traffic, and revenue. This has always been a strength of the ACV methodology. What's changed is the data layer underneath it.
We're no longer benchmarking against a snapshot that was accurate when we ran it three weeks ago. Our AI tools ingest live competitive data at the time of the assessment — meaning the numbers we're presenting reflect what's actually happening in your category right now, not a research artifact from last quarter.
That matters more than it sounds. In the categories where most of our clients operate — outdoor, lifestyle, apparel, specialty retail — competitive positioning can shift meaningfully in a matter of weeks. A competitor's paid social strategy in March differs from their November strategy. Their SEO investment compounds or decays in ways that matter for how you think about your own. When we benchmark against live data, those dynamics are visible in a way they simply weren't before.
Media Mix and Channel Prioritization
The 3-Year Digital Strategy section of our assessment has always been where clients get the most value — and historically, where they've pushed back the hardest. That's because channel prioritization and budget allocation recommendations are the kind of things that feel directional rather than definitive. We'd tell a client to lean into SEO and reduce dependence on paid Meta, and the conversation would become: how do you know that?
With AI doing the media mix analysis, that question has a better answer. AI identifies where spend is working and where it's being wasted — across channels, across competitors, and in the context of your specific category dynamics. When we recommend a budget reallocation or a channel prioritization, it's now modeled against real data, not just grounded in experience. Both still matter. But the combination is meaningfully stronger, and it shifts the conversation from a debate about methodology to a review of the findings.
Market Trends and Market Potential
One of the most common pieces of feedback we've gotten over the years is that our Market Trends and Market Potential sections — while thorough — could feel like category reports that happened to have the client's name on them. That's a fair critique. The data was good, but it wasn't always live or specific enough to feel like it was written about this brand in this moment.
AI draws from live market signals at the time of the assessment. The result is Market Trends and Market Potential content that reflects what's happening in the category as we're writing it, not as it was three to six months ago when the underlying research was collected. For brands making investment decisions that will shape their next 12 to 36 months, that currency of data is genuinely meaningful.
What Hasn't Changed — And Why It Matters
I want to be direct about something, because it's important context for how we talk about AI at ACV.
The reason these tools make our assessments better is not that they replace our team's judgment. It's because they gave our team the freedom to operate at a higher level.
Every Digital Assessment still runs through experienced ACV practitioners — people who have built brands, run marketing organizations, managed retail programs at scale. The assessment you receive is still shaped by human expertise at every stage. What's different is that our people are now spending more time on interpretation, strategy, and recommendations — and less time on data assembly, competitive research compilation, and the mechanical work of synthesizing consumer signals into readable content.
That's the right use of experienced people. And it's the right use of AI.
We call our approach human-led, AI-powered — and I mean that specifically. The AI provides the data infrastructure, the analytical foundation, and the synthesis capability. The humans provide strategic judgment, category experience, pattern recognition that comes only from decades inside great brands, and accountability for the recommendations we make.
Neither is sufficient on its own. Together, they produce something genuinely better than either could alone.
The Practical Difference for Clients
Here's what this means if you're a brand going through an ACV Digital Assessment today versus a year ago.
Your competitive benchmarks are current, not historical. Your media mix recommendations are modeled, not directional. Your market potential estimate is grounded in live category signals. And every section is connected — consumer intelligence informs the channel strategy, which informs the budget allocation, which in turn informs the performance metrics. The assessment holds together as a document rather than just a collection of well-considered sections.
That coherence is the thing I'm most proud of. It's what "more defensible" actually means in practice. When you take this assessment into your organization, every recommendation has an answer to the question: how do you know that?
We've always been able to answer that question with methodology and experience. Now we can answer it with a depth of data that it would have been hard to imagine in 2024.
